In short
- You buy a licence to use a SIM title, not ownership of it.
- Your PDF is a personalised copy: your name or institution, your email and your licence number are printed on every page and stored inside the file.
- The file is locked: it can be read and printed, but not edited, copied or split.
- You download it from My account on odlseries.com, signed in with your email address and password. Each licence allows up to 5 downloads, and each download is recorded.
- Sharing the file outside your licence is not allowed, and a shared copy can be traced back to your licence.
- Free eBooks cost nothing, but are licensed to you personally and protected in the same way.
1. The licence
SIM titles are licensed, not sold. ODL Series retains all rights in its original content, design and arrangement of each title. Each title is arranged in line with the course’s Jadual 4 and refers to the Ministry of Higher Education’s MPU module material, which is acknowledged in the title. When your order is paid, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the title, covering the number of copies or learners shown on your invoice and licence certificate.
- Individual licence: for your own personal study.
- Institution licence: for the institution's own enrolled learners and staff, up to the number of learners licensed. The institution may place the file in its own password-protected learning management system (LMS) for those learners. It may not place the file anywhere open to the public.
2. How you receive your files
- After you send an order request, we email you a quotation, and then an invoice.
- After we receive your payment, we prepare a licensed copy of each title for you.
- We email your My account sign-in details from consultant@odlseries.com: your email address as username and a temporary password, which you change at your first sign-in.
- You sign in, accept these terms and download the PDF, up to 5 times. We may deactivate or revoke a licence, with a remark shown in My account, for example while a payment is checked or if the licence terms are broken.
Pre-ordered titles are delivered in the same way once they are released. If your link expires or you lose your file, contact us and we will help.
3. How each copy is protected
- Personalised pages: every page shows the licensee's name or institution, email address, licence number and number of learners.
- Watermark: a light diagonal mark with the licensee and licence number appears on every page.
- Licence certificate: a page after the cover shows the licence details and these terms.
- Hidden identification: the licence number and licensee details are also stored in the file's properties.
- Locked file: the PDF is encrypted (AES-256) to block editing, copying text and extracting pages. Printing is allowed; printed pages still show the licence details.
- Download records: each download is recorded with its date, time, IP address and browser or device type, to detect misuse. See our Privacy Notice.
4. What you may not do
- Share, send, sell, lend or upload the file, or any part of it, to anyone outside your licence.
- Post the file on public websites, social media, file-sharing services or public cloud folders.
- Share your download link or your My account password.
- Remove, hide or alter the licence details, watermark or protection.
- Copy, adapt or republish the content without our written permission, except for short quotations for teaching or research with proper acknowledgement.
5. If these terms are broken
If we find a copy shared outside its licence, the licence number on its pages tells us which licence it came from. We may contact the licensee, revoke the licence and download links, and take legal action, including under the Copyright Act 1987.
6. Prices and payment
Prices, payment terms and any other conditions for your order are set out in your quotation and invoice. Payment is made by bank transfer using your invoice number as the reference.
7. Free eBooks
Free eBooks are also licensed, not sold. They cost nothing, but each copy is issued to one named person and protected in the same way as SIM titles: your name, institution, email and licence number appear on every page, the file is locked, and downloads are recorded.
- You may read, print and use the eBook for your own work and study.
- You may not share, upload, resell or republish the file or its content, or present it as someone else’s work. Colleagues can request their own free copy on our Free eBooks page.
- Sections 3, 4 and 5 apply to free eBooks as they do to SIM titles. Section 6 does not apply.
8. Your personal data
To deliver and protect your files we process your name, institution, email, licence number and download records, and for free eBooks your designation. Our Privacy Notice explains how we use and protect this data, how long we keep it, and your rights under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
9. General
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. We may update them; the version in force when you download your files applies to that delivery. Questions: consultant@odlseries.com.
